MACY TALLARICO
Outdoor Adventure Programmer
As the fall season approaches and we start to clean and store our kayaks and paddle boards, people may find themselves wondering “What other outdoor activities can we do?” Well, Outdoor Adventure has everyone covered! From climbing at the Scioto Audubon Climbing Wall, to trying your shot at the Scioto Grove Archery Range, we have plenty of fun activities for visitors and staff to dive into this fall season!
Rock Climbing
From beginner climbers to experienced mountaineers, we have a little something for everyone! At our Try It! Climbing programs, we get you suited up in a climbing harness and help you ascend the wall. Our recreation staff will belay you up the wall while giving helpful advice and tips along the way. Join us on the last Wednesday of every month (weather depending) for Learn the Ropes programs, where we provide all the equipment for you and your family to come out and enjoy a nice evening at the climbing wall.
Via ferrata
For those looking for a little more of a challenge, sign up for a via ferrata climb at Quarry Trails Metro Park. Climbs consist of traveling along an old quarry cliff face, traversing upon metal rungs and rocks while being connected to a cable that extends the length of the course. We offer three to four climbs a week up until the middle of December and start back up again in the spring! These staff-guided climbs are a very exciting opportunity to see the Metro Park from a different perspective.
Archery
Our archery programs, held at the Scioto Grove Archery Range, are for those who are new to archery or individuals just wanting a fun time at the range. We provide youth and adult compound bows, arrows and instruction as well as a safety demonstration. Archery programs are for ages 8 and over. Children need to have the strength to be able to pull back the string on the bow. We also do themed archery programs, where we make paper targets for archers to aim at. Some of our favorites are Pumpkin Archery and Spring Shoot! Once the temperatures get a little too cold to be outside, we transition from the archery range to the Blacklick Woods Golf Course Pro Shop and provide Try It! Archery programs there as well — in the warmth and the indoors! Keep an eye out for updates in the winter.
Hikes
We provide an array of staff led hikes throughout the park district, including Toddler Hikes, Headlamp Hikes at Dark and Hikes to the Scioto Grove Fire Tower, just to name a few. Whether you are actively hiking, or just wanting to explore, we have a hike for you. Bring your little ones out to our Toddler Hikes and trot around as we explore the park at a slower pace. All Toddler Hikes will be on paved/stroller friendly trails, so kiddos of all ages can join us.
While these are just a few of the types of cold weather programs we offer, we have an abundance of other recreation programs offered all throughout the year. From playing outside, to learning outdoor skills, we keep a pretty busy schedule of programs for everyone to enjoy.
