Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks
Founded in 1945, Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks (Metro Parks) is a public agency serving the citizens of central Ohio by providing a regional park district open 365 days a year. The mission of Metro Parks is to conserve open spaces, while providing places and opportunities that encourage visitors to discover and experience nature.
More than 230 miles of trails and over 28,500 acres of land in seven counties allow Metro Parks to feature 20 outstanding parks with diverse ecosystems, including woodlands, wetlands, prairies and streams. In addition, Metro Parks works to conserve and enhance wildlife habitats for more than 2,400 species of animals and plants, while attracting more than 12 million guests each year.
Metro Parks hosts thousands of free educational programs and outdoor recreational events, providing guests of all ages and abilities a variety of opportunities for outdoor experiences to appreciate and engage with nature, as well as providing beautiful indoor and outdoor venues, shelters and lodges for visitors to reserve for their special occasions.
Along with grants and partnerships, the primary source of funding for Metro Parks is the 10-year park levy voted on by Franklin County voters, which provides a sound financial base for operating and improving existing parks as well as acquiring additional land for future preservation.
