The inaugural Bark Bash was held on August 24 at Prairie Oaks Metro Park. The park was transformed into a canine paradise for dogs and their owners. The weather was a little warm, but that didn’t stop tails from wagging! Prairie Oaks saw nearly 10,000 visitors and their pups (and one cat). [YAY FOR CATS! – editor]

Popular sites included the ice castles where dogs could cool their paws and the dog beach, where pups could splash around. The stage area featured demonstrations from the Franklin County Sheriff K9 units, Performance Canines, and Sky Dogs. Friends of Metro Parks hosted a bandana tie-dyeing station, while Outdoor Adventure hosted SUP (and kayak) with your Pup!

There were 83 vendors on hand, offering everything from gourmet dog treats to stylish new collars. Many local pet resource organizations were in attendance, including the OSU Veterinary Medical Center and the Franklin County Auditor’s Office. We also had a variety of animal shelters that brought along adorable adoptable dogs, including Jolene, an adoptable bulldog (below).

The event saw minimal incidents, including a few medic runs, mostly for heat-related issues, and one dog bite on an owner who broke up a dog fight.

We couldn’t have pulled off such a successful event without the incredible dedication of the 73 staff and 11 volunteers who helped with the event. Your hard work and enthusiasm were truly the backbone of Bark Bash. From setting up the activities to managing the crowds and parking, and ensuring everything ran smoothly, your efforts made the day memorable for everyone involved. Special shoutout to HR, who provided a delicious lunch for staff and volunteers!

Thank you once again to everyone who participated and supported the event. We look forward to seeing even more furry friends again next year. Until then, keep wagging and stay pawsitive! 🐾
