CAROLINE WAGNER-FREY
Outdoor Adventure Supervisor
Metro Parks employees often get asked what their favorite park, trail, or native flora and fauna are. As Outdoor Adventure programmers we will get asked what our favorite activity or program is, and it can be a tough question to answer! There are programs I enjoy teaching, programs I enjoy doing myself, and programs that are a seasonal favorite. So, to answer this question, I am going to list out my top three favorite activities Metro Parks offers and why they are my favorites.
1. SUP
My all-time favorite program that Outdoor Adventure offers is stand-up paddle boarding! I started learning how to “SUP” when I was young, and it was always my dream to become a SUP instructor. So being able to teach people how to stand-up paddleboard will always hold a special place in my heart.
2. Fly Fishing
Fly fishing is one of my favorite recreational activities to do in my free time. I really love teaching others the basics of fly fishing as well. There is so much to learn about this sport, and I love that what we do can provide clarity to others and provide a stepping stone for them to be introduced to this activity.
3. Snowshoeing
While we don’t get snow here in central Ohio as often as we would like, when we do we offer snowshoeing programs. It is a unique experience that we get to offer our visitors, and the novelty of being able to trudge through the snow in snowshoes makes everyone’s day. I wish we had snow more often so we could snowshoe throughout the winter.
Hi, can we borrow or rent a snowshoe at Glacier Ridge Metro Park?
Hi Andre – we do not rent or lend snowshoes, but when we get at least 4 to 6 inches of snow, we will do snowshoeing programs, free of charge, at Glacier Ridge Metro Park. You can try out our snowshoes on a designated trail when you attend one of these programs. The programs are added to our website and our social media platforms. You can follow us at Metro Parks Outdoor Adventure on Instagram and Facebook to learn more about what programs we offer!
